NewsTitlePOLICE AUTHORITY - give grant to Potential Champions
NewsCopyThe Hampshire Police Authority have recently confirmed a maximum grant for the POTENTIAL CHAMPIONs Workshop, run by LEAP, for 12-15 year olds who are in school but struggling or showing anti social behaviours and are therefore in danger of being excluded from school and ultimately society. ''Early interventions and investments are vital to these young people, not just for their sake, but for yours and mine,' states PJ. 'Disruptive behaviours in schools effect many other students and teachers, causing a knock on effect. The number of teachers suffering bullying from their students has increased to 1 in 12 reporting incidents. Remember that if a child is excluded from school, or simply decides to bunk off - how will he or she entertain themselves without supervision or positive support? Will they start stealing, vandelising your car, bullying or intimidating old folk? This isn't one of these 'not in my back yard' scenarios. Its real and it is in your back yard, sadly.'' The project is concerned with helping young people to champion their behaviors and become valuable members of their community. Most of the kids we see are not 'bad', they are simply misguided, bored, frustrated and irresponsible. As Potential Champions, we encourage them to take stock of their situation and develop behaviours that will benefit them long term, keeping them in school and lessons, and out of jail. The funding from the Police Authority is conditional upon us raising more money to ensure continued programmes and success, so we need your help even more than ever to raise money and awareness of the workshops. Both Ancasta ( www.ancasta.co.uk ) and RedmanWhiteleyDixon ( www.rwd.co.uk ) have recently and generously sent donations to this charitable fund to help the local schools and school children, to those companies we send thanks, and to the rest of you we send a big 'come on' and an invitation to speak to us about how you can help and support us, to help the young people in your area! Thank you.
